On 9 September, a delegation from EPAYPS took part in the Exchange Event of the Intergroup on Resilience, Civil Protection and Disaster Management, co-organised with the European Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (CESI).
The event, titled “Firefighters: Spotlight on Working Conditions & Occupational Health and Safety”, was hosted at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The discussion was held in the presence of Executive Vice-President for Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness, Ms Roxana Minzatu, as well as Members of the European Parliament Pascal Arimont, Grégory Allione, Christophe Clergeau and Matej Tonin.
Representing EPAYPS, Vice President Alexandros Melachroinos addressed the critical occupational risks and hazards firefighters face. He further underlined the growing need to upskill emergency responders, enhancing their resilience, preparedness and innovation capacity through advanced training methods, digital technologies and community-based practices.
During his intervention, Mr Melachroinos also presented the latest progress of the ENSURE Project, outlining its upcoming steps, long-term objectives and expected contributions to strengthening emergency response capabilities across Europe.
